Born in 1947, Janet Marshall's professional career commenced in the 1970s when she was commissioned to illustrate the Mobil New Zealand birds field guides in the early 1970s. Specialising in ornitholical subjects, Janet Marshall's subsequent wide and varied portfolio has included stamp designs for New Zealand Post, Christmas cards, original paintings and prints for New Zealand Ornithological Society and other organisations, as well as illustrating other calendars, books and guides. She has illustrated and written five children's books, an illustrated Garden Diary on Te Popo Gardens in Taranaki New Zealand and also built and published an interactive website for children on New Zealand birds. In 2012 she began working in the digital art world, producing digital botanical paintings for the online programme Second Life, where she displays and sells her work at 'Artists Garden SL Botanicals'. Janet Marshall works in a variety of mediums including gouache and watercolour, acrylic, ink and wash, pastel and pencil, all worked on either rag board or canvas.
