Born in the UK in 1921, Laurie Knott studied in the UK and arrived in Western Australia in 1952. An impressionist painter in oil and watercolour, he has exhibited his work in Australia since 1963. He was art critic for the 'Sunday Times' newspaper in Perth, and has also worked as an art teacher judge and lecturer in Perth and country areas. Knott belongs to a number of art societies in Perth, and has held official positions with the Western Australian Society of Arts.

The highest price recorded for the artist is $1,725 for Palace Hotel Perth sold by GFL Fine Art in May 2008.
