Born in England, began his artistic career as a traditional artist working in the style of the Old Masters. He exhibited at the Royal Academy and in Berlin Brussels and Paris. It wasn't until Stainforth arrived Australia in 1908 that he developed in interest in equine art and became known for his paintings of racehorses, painting most of the champions of his time. In 1928 he returned to England where he remained for four years completing commissions and moved to New York, where he worked for 14 years. He returned to England about 1949, and he died In Hove, Sussex in 1957.
