About Charles Pettinger
Born in Lithgow, New South Wales in 1897, Charles Pettinger gained his medical degree from the University of Sydney in 1921 and enjoyed a long and successful career as a doctor. He also pursued a passion for painting and in 1950 enrolled in the Newcastle Art School, where he studied with John Passmore and Paul Beadle. During the 1960s he went on to travel, work and study art in Europe. He held many solo and group shows, both in Newcastle in Sydney, including the 28th anniversary exhibition at Von Bertouch Galleries in Newcastle. In the 1960s he also exhibited with the American Watercolour Society in New York. He has exhibited widely and won many prizes.
