Born in Wellington in 1945 Denys Watkins studied at Wellington School of Design from 1962 to 1964 and painting and printmaking in London at the Central School of Art & Design and the Royal College of Art from 1968 to 1970. An abstract painter, using a variety of media including etching, screenprinting, watercolour, acrylic and oil painting he has been exhibiting in New Zealand and internationally since 1971. He has been a lecturer at Elam School of Fine Arts, Auckland University since 1980.
