Born in Victoria in 1934, Thomas Wells studied at the Ballarat School of Mines Art School and the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology. In 1963 he took a study tour to Europe and the USA. He has taught art at Frankston Teachers Training College and Deakin University in Belmont, Geelong. America. His first exhibition was held in Brisbane in 1964 and he also exhibited in Melbourne and Adelaide. An impressionist watercolour artist he favoured landscapes and won the Minnie Crouch Prize for Watercolour in 1963, at that time administered by the Art Gallery of Ballarat and the camberwell Rotary Prize for Watercolour in 1971.
