Born in Hobart in 1905, Gerald Lewers studied under Dattilo Rubbo and in Europe. Best known as a sculptor, he has received numerous commissions for sculptural work throughout Australia. With his wife, Margo Lewers, he travelled extensively until his death in 1962. After the death of Margo Lewers in 1978 their home and collection were given to the Penrith Council and are now housed in a local regional gallery.
