About Geoffrey Dance
Born in England in 1930, Dance arrived in Australia in 1950. He was employed as an advertising designer in Sydney; he also worked as jackeroo and wool-classer. He returned to England in 1962 and began painting seriously, and held his first solo show at a Chelsea gallery in April 1964. His first Australian show was held at Australian Galleries, Melbourne, in 1966. Since that time he has held further exhibitions in Adelaide and Melbourne. His paintings, though Australian in their brilliant colouring, are based on the artist's memories of and feelings for the English countryside in his childhood.
The total number of works by Geoffrey Dance offered for sale by auction since 1971 is 23, of which 14 (61%) were sold. No works have been offered for sale this year, and the last sale we have recorded for the artist was in 2021.
