Born in 1855, Sam Stuart arrived with his parents in New Zealand. He painted scenes of the Auckland of his day and also from early sketches, engravings and photographs of Auckland. Some of these paintings he had reproduced, published and copyrighted. He was a member and exhibitor of the Auckland Society of Arts.

The total number of works by Sam Stuart offered for sale by auction since 1992 is 40, of which 29 (73%) were sold. The highest price recorded for the artist is $26,324 for Te Pehi Kupe, Warrior of the Ngati Toa Tribe sold by International Art Centre in November 2010. No works have been offered for sale this year, and the last sale we have recorded for the artist was in 2022. Works by Sam Stuart are held by the Auckland Art Gallery and Museum Of New Zealand.
