A special global fundraising art auction will be hosted here in Australia by Leonard Joel, in collaboration with the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW) and supported artist studios.

The sale titled Art to Roam offers 94 artworks by artists with disabilities from around the world, including the UK, US, Canada, South Korea and Australia. All funds raised will be evenly split between the artists and IFAW to help save Africa’s endangered elephants through their Room to Roam project.

Thom Roberts, 'Elephant Standing in the Meadows' (lot 82) is to be offered in the global fundraising initiative “Art to Roam” hosted by Leonard Joel on World Animal Day on 4 October.

The online virtual auction will end on 4th October 2021, that is World Animal Day. In Australia however, it will be 5th October, and John Albrecht, Leonard Joel chairman and IFAW board member, will preside over the live online auction from 7 am in the morning.

Neither Leonard Joel nor auction bidding site Invaluable.com are charging any fees in this sale, so what you bid is what you pay, plus shipping fees.

The art comes with various names: outsider art, art brut, naive art, vernacular art and raw art, representing a unique aspect in contemporary art.

Bidding has already started on some of the 94 artworks on offer, for example Untitled (Abstract) (lot 23) by Julian Martin, who is represented by commercial galleries in Philadelphia, London and Melbourne.

Israel (lot 64) is by Blake Lenoir, a Chicago-based artist represented by 3Arts and Project Onward  in Chicago.

A total of four works by Australian Thom Roberts are offered in the auction, and his painting A portriff of Adam (Shane Simpson AM) was hung in this year’s Archibald Prize at the AGNSW.
