Born in Melbourne in 1923, Alan Martin studied under Max Meldrum, at the National Gallery School and the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology. He later established his own art school with lessons held in Eltham and Kew. A painter in oils, he favours landscapes,still life and portraits and was a finalist in the Art Gallery of New South Wales Archibald Prize in 1959. He has won several prizes in provincial art shows.
