Born in England in 1821 Christopher Richmond arrived in Auckland in 1853. He became a well known New Zealand public official and member of parliment. His posts included Colonial Treasurer; he was the first Minister of Native Affairs; Commissioner of Customs, and Member of the Executive Council. An amateur artist, he worked in watercolour and pencil.
