Builder and watercolourist John Clarke was born in England and arrived in Sydney in 1825, after stopping off in Hobart en route where he completed some paintings of Hobart and its environs. John Clarke was joined by his brother James Clarke in Sydney in 1827. Little is known of their lives beyond these dates.
