About Louise Henderson
Born in Paris in 1912, Louise Henderson moved to New Zealand and studied in Christchurch, at Victoria University and at Auckland University under John Weeks. She returned to Paris briefly in 1952 for further studies, and a year later held her first one-woman show in Auckland. She travelled and exhibited regularly in New Zealand and overseas. In 1973 was awarded a Queen Elizabeth II Fellowship for her outstanding contribution to New Zealand painting. Henderson also lectured and published articles on embroidery and tapestry; and worked in stained glass, sculpture, mosaic, print-making and fibre.
Louise Henderson is one of the most prolific of the artists listed in our database, with the number of works offered for sale by auction since 1986 of 731, of which 504 (69%) were sold.
