A New Zealand artist, Mervyn Williams was born in Whakatane in 1940. He studied at the Elam School of Fine Art and lives and works in Auckland. Initially a printmaker, he turned to large scale abstract painting in the late 1970s. He has exhibited regularly in New Zealand since 1966 and is represented in all major public and many private collections in this country as well as in private collections in North America, Europe, Japan and Australia.
The total number of works by Mervyn Williams offered for sale by auction since 1990 is 329, of which 198 (60%) were sold. The highest price recorded for the artist is $19,680 for Bright Gold sold by Webb's in May 2017. This year 5 works have been offered for sale.
