Born in Ballarat in 1908, Florence Martin studied art in Melbourne and in New York in 1945-46 and at the American Artists School in 1951. She is best known for her still life and floral paintings and for her designs for theatre and ballet in Australia and the USA, as a member of the United Scenic Artists of America. She exhibited her still life and flower paintings from 1950 in New York, London, Melbourne and Sydney.
We have records of art auction sales by Florence Martin from 1975 and in total 35 works by the artist have been offered for sale, of which 16 (46%) were sold. The highest price recorded for the artist is $1,364 for Botanical Gardens II sold by Mossgreen Auctions in May 2016. No works have been offered for sale this year, and the last sale we have recorded for the artist was in 2022. Works by Florence Martin are held by the National Gallery of Australia, National Gallery of Victoria and Art Gallery of South Australia.
