Born in Palmerston North, New Zealand in 1949, Philip O'Sullivan was tutored in Hamilton by artist Sydney Charles Smith (1888- 1972) and then studied at University of Canterbury School of Fine Arts. He is known as an abstract painter working in oil, ink, watercolour and acrylic . He moved to Wellington in 1980.
